Tetrabenazine (Ro 1-9569) is a compound for the symptomatic treatment of hyperkinetic movement disorder. Tetrabenazine works mainly as a VMAT-inhibitor and as such promotes the early metabolic degradation of monoamines, in particular the neurotransmitter dopamine.
