TTK21 is an activator of the histone acetyltransferases CBP/p300. TTK21 can cross the blood-brain barrier, and reaches different parts of the brain when conjugated to glucose-based carbon nanosphere (CSP). TTK21 induces acetylation of histones H3 and H4 but not H2B and H2A in vitro.
TTK21 promotes neurogenesis and prolongs memory duration in adult mice, sensory regeneration and germination of motor axons, and recovery of sensory and motor function in mouse and rat models of spinal cord injury. TTK21 has potential for research of brain neurogenesis and long-term memory function.
